Anglophone Crisis: Residential Neighbourhoods In Bali Under Attack

By Soulemanu Buba

Several residential neighbourhoods in Bali Nyonga, one of the crisis hit villages in the North West Region, have come under attack from Cameroon military.

Reports from Bali say men, women and children from a single family have been rushed to a health facility after government forces threw grenades into their home.

MMI learnt that the family took cover when the military invaded the village.

Reports also reaching MMI confirm that many have sought refuge in bushes and that homes and businesses are already being looted in what has been described by many as a common phenomenon within Cameroon security forces.

“It is a normal thing, looting, killing of innocent civilians and raping women is their trade mark. They are noted for all these. They have thrown a grenade in a house wounding many people. We are not sure they will survive. Nkar Valère and all those handing down instructions to the soldiers are guilty of rape, looting and the killing of civilians,” Nickson tells MMI from his hideout in Bali.

As a way of protecting themselves, villages have developed the habit of taking cover when they hear the sound of military vehicles or spot soldiers from a distance. This highlights the everyday paradox that has become a main feature of the ongoing war.
