Armed separatists operating in Kedjom Keku (Big Babanki), Tubah Sub Division, North West Region of Cameroon have imposed what many say is a curfew in the village.

This has been condemned by many in the village who said it is a continuation of the belligerent’s war against the civilian population in that community.

This was after the armed men molested many women and shot at least some, on 18 May 2023.

The shooting and ensuing harassment of the population started after women staged a protest march against extortion by the fighters.

From what MMI gathered, the separatist fighters have asked schools, parents, students, and pupils to pay a levy termed as ‘liberation tax’.

“We have been asked not to be out after 6 pm. Three persons are not to be seen anywhere and anytime together. This is not different from the supposed subjugation of the Biya regime over the last four decades. It’s really sad because this time around, our own children are the ones treating us this way,” said Afa, a native of Big Babanki.

It should be noted that the population of Kedjom Keku has on many occasions accused the belligerents in the war ravaging lives in the two restive regions of Cameroon of gross human rights abuses.

With the Anglophone crisis not showing any signs of abating, these acts against the population are bound to continue while the Anglophone elites watch from a distance.
