Anglophone Crisis:
Ex-Separatist fighters at Yola DDR Centre Accuse Intermediaries Of Neglect

Anglophone Separatist fighters residing at the Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration, DDR Center in Yola, Adamawa State in Nigeria have cried foul citing neglect from the Government of Cameroon.

The said ex-combatants say among other things, they have gone for months without accommodation and food at the Yola DDR Center.

Other ex-fighters who have their wives and children with them say they find it impossible to Carter for them due to the extreme neglect from the authorities in Yaoundé.

The fighters have also told MMI that the DDR officials responsible for liaising with the Government like Dr. Success Nkongho, have left them and moved to Abuja.

“… they have left us and are enjoying in Abuja because we do not have direct access to Yaoundé to complain,” an ex-separatist figter has told MMI.

“We are dying, and have no help because our intermediary, Dr. Success Nkongho who is leading the group is somewhere else enjoying while we are here under unpleasant conditions,” he complained.

The fighters also say they have been evicted from their accommodations, and have had to sleep outside in the open with neither food nor medication.

They believe money sent to them at the Yola DDR Center has been embezzled by Dr. Success Nkongho.

According to the ex-combatants, “Dr. Success Nkongho has set up numerous businesses in Abuja while the boys are starving in Yola.”

Numerous efforts to reach the authorities in Yaoundé by the ex-fighters have remained futile till now.

They say they have no direct link with the Government and only communicate with the authorities through their intermediaries whom they say have left them to die in Yola.

Dr. Success Nkongho has however denied the accusations from the ex-fighters whom he says are under his care.

“First of all, I am in Yola, and not in Abuja,” he said on the accusations saying he had relocated to Abuja.

Dr. Success has explained that he has neither swindled any funds nor mismanaged them, also claiming that some of the expenses at the accommodation centers were from his pockets.

Dr. Success has also said, “there are no ex- combatants stranded without accommodation in Yola…”

This is contradictory to what the fighters have claimed, that they are “suffering under unpleasant conditions… Sleeping outside while the empty house is locked…”

Dr. Success Nkongho also told MMI that the ex-separatists were never forced to move to the Yola DDR Center and that most had found themselves there without contacting him.

Nevertheless, he said they were provided accommodation.

A group of ex-combatants also spoke to MMI and debunked claims against Dr. Success Nkongho.

They all acclaimed him and said he is like a father to them.
