The mortal remains of Williamson, the 24-year-old boy who died when an element of the Cameroon Military threw a hand grenade at him, have been laid to rest.

The body of Williamson as he was fondly called, was removed from the Bamenda Regional Hospital Mortuary taken briefly to his Hot Spot neighbourhood in Bamenda I Sub Division, Saturday September 11, 2021.

The corpse would later be taken to his native Ndop in Ngoketunjia Division, North West Region of Cameroon where it was interred.

It is worth remembering that about a forth night ago, a uniform officer approached Williamson who was chatting with some friends after he had closed for the day as a bar attendant. He asked them go home or he was going to beat them up.

“No one took him serious because he was someone residing in the same quarter as them, reason why no one moved. He picked a wood from the business site of a soya vendor, threw it at them, Williamson picked it and threw it away,” and eye witness said.

The same witness further testified that the uniformed officer “… then removed a grenade, disarmed it and threw it where the deceased and his friends where. As Williamson was about picking, it went off and that was his end.”

According to findings, we were made to understand that the officer who was slightly wounded when the device went off was briefly detained.

A colleague of the military officer who was devastated with what happened and opted for anonymity told MIMI Mefo Info that,
“he told investigators that he was defending himself when he was attacked by Williamson and his friends. I know he lied because this is not the first time. He did it once and it was a colleague that saved the situation. He is now free while a family has lost a dear one.”

Many have expressed shock as to why the uniform officer was released so soon. Others have termed the move as rovocative saying in Cameroon, civilian lives don’t really matter.

“Had it been it was a soldier that was hurt, the whole area would have been in pain. They would have come with their guns and harrassed us. Now that it is a civilian, it is a none event. Let the guns go round so that, it will be fifty fifty,” a tearful freind of the deseased said.

The population especially those around the Hot Spot neighborhood have challenged the authorities to conduct a thorough investigation so that Justice can be served.
