An internally displaced family in Loum, Moungo division of the Littoral region of Cameroon say Christmas 2019 is the worst feast of nativity they have ever celebrated.
Speaking in Loum on behalf of a family of seven, a 30 year-old lady who preferred not to be named, regretted that they could not afford food for their families or get clothes for children because of hardship, in a place they call a strange land.
They fled killings and burning of houses in the war torn North West region two years ago, and have been living as internally displaced persons in Loum, under what she qualifies as precarious living conditions.
The lady and six other family members, notably her children, grandmother and siblings have been occupying a tiny plank-house room in the town of Loum for over two years.
With limited space and lack of household utensils, the family uses the floor as their bed at nightfall.
Several families displaced by the Anglophone Crisis live on hand to mouth
They say getting to feed the entire family is a problem and they sometimes go for days without food.
Forced out of home to a strange land, the family survives on menial jobs, which are not consistently available.
The thirty years old lady and her grand mother, about 60 years old are the only bread winners of the family of seven. They do small jobs in people’s farms in Loum to be able to feed the family according to her.
The junior ones have been unable to go to school in Loum, for three years due to lack of Money, she told us.
With their hardship extended to Christmas,
the IDPs blame the worsening and prolonged Anglophone crisis for their suffering.
