Anglophone IDP Survives Brutal Attack After Achieving Outstanding Results in GCE Exams

Princess Tabe Ebob, a young internally displaced person (IDP) due to the ongoing conflict in the Anglophone region of Cameroon, achieved an impressive feat by passing 11 papers in the General Certificate of Education (GCE) exams at the ordinary level. Unfortunately, her accomplishment was overshadowed by a tragic event that took place on Sunday, July 28, 2024, in Yaoundé, where she currently lives in Chapel Obili.

Based on a legal complaint filed by Barrister Nico Amungwa Tanyi on August 1, 2024, to the Chief of the Service Centrale des Recherches Judiciaires in Yaoundé, it has been reported that Princess Tabe was the victim of a brutal attack by an individual named Frank. The complaint provides a detailed account of the incident involving Frank, who is facing serious allegations including sexual harassment, hate speech, attempted rape, and attempted murder. According to the complaint, Princess Tabe was targeted by Frank while she was in her mother’s kitchen attending to a fire for smoking fish.

The attack took place at approximately 7:00 AM, as Frank reportedly entered the kitchen while brandishing a machete. The assailant faced strong resistance from Princess Tabe, which seemed to further fuel his anger, resulting in a vicious machete attack. Luckily, thanks to the timely intervention of her mother, Mrs. Lidwine Mbong Ngong, Princess Tabe was spared from any further harm or potential danger to her life. Despite the serious injuries she sustained, her mother’s swift response and the assistance of those nearby prevented the situation from turning deadly.

The report also suggests that Frank’s parents, rather than expressing regret, assisted their son in evading legal consequences and later urged him to revisit the victim’s residence, where he proudly proclaimed his immunity from the law. According to reports, the suspect and his associates persistently troubled the family, cautioning them to go back to their region affected by conflict.

In addition, Mrs. Ngong’s complaint highlights that this was not an isolated occurrence. Princess Tabe had previously reported several cases of sexual harassment involving Frank and his associates. The suspect’s parents have been accused of fostering a hostile and discriminatory atmosphere that ultimately resulted in the attack. It has been reported that they encouraged the victim’s family to relocate from the area.

Princess Tabe’s parents remain unwavering in their quest for justice, even in the face of persistent threats, as she continues her recovery in a medical facility. The family’s lawyer is urging the authorities to act quickly and decisively in order to hold the perpetrator accountable and safeguard the well-being of the victim and her family.
