After Buea, Bangate Central Markert Gets New Structure
Following the recent inauguration of a modern market structure in Buea Central Market, traders in Bangante Central Market in the Nde Division of Cameroon’s West Region have now received a similar upgrade. On Wednesday, August 7, the new market, featuring over 300 shops, was officially opened by Georges Elanga Obam, the Minister of Decentralisation and Local Development.
Constructed at a cost exceeding 910 million FCFA, the new market complex has been funded by Feicom and German funds. The structure includes 304 shops, two toilet blocks, storage spaces, a bus station, and parking facilities. Minister Georges Elanga Obam highlighted the benefits of the new market, stating, “The central market of Bangangté includes 304 shops, two toilet blocks, storage spaces, a bus station, and parking lots.”
He emphasized that the new market will enhance working conditions for traders, create numerous jobs, revitalize the urban center, boost commercial activities, improve commercial infrastructure, and increase municipal revenue. The minister also urged the Bangante Council Mayor to ensure the effective collection of all market revenues.
This marks the second central market inauguration by the Ministry of Decentralisation within a month. In July, Minister Elanga Obam inaugurated the Buea Central Market, which was the first of its kind in the area, providing traders with secure storage facilities and protection from weather-related damage.
