Another Nollywood Actor Hanks Anuku Appeals for Support

In a plea to his fans and Nigerians, renowned Nollywood Actor Hanks Anuku took to his private Instagram page on Thursday, sharing a video where he candidly addressed his current challenges and sought assistance.

The actor, widely known for his contributions to the Nigerian movie industry (Nollywood), had previously sparked concerns among fans after appearing unwell and isolated in videos. Despite reassurances from his colleague Shan George a few months ago, who stated that Anugu was doing well, his recent video has ignited renewed worry among the public.

Expressing gratitude to his fans and Governor Sheriff, Anuku opened up about his personal struggles, stating, “I thank you all, fans, and my governor, Sheriff. I have tried my best to uphold my status as an entertainer, so it’s good to let you all know what I’m going through. I have a family and would love to get all the help from you all. Dropping my account details, nothing is ever too small.”

A fan, Monalisa Stephen said, “He’s spoken, and now he needs help. Let’s help him figure out why he’s still alive and talking. Don’t be when something bad happens; now go start your fake love life. May God punish ahead of time anyone who won’t help now but will later come out to yarn dust! Thank you very much, sir. We’re with you, sir.”

Hanks Anuku is not the only Nollywood actor facing public challenges, as Mr. Ibu continues to seek help from his hospital bed, and Amaechi Muonagor, a fellow actor and producer, recently reached out to his fans after a health setback.

The Nigerian Actors Guild (NAG) has faced scrutiny regarding its role in supporting actors in need. In response, NAG issued a statement asserting the existence of a support scheme for its members but acknowledging limitations to what they could provide. The broader conversation now revolves around the industry’s collective responsibility to ensure the well-being of its members, emphasising the need for a robust support system for actors facing hardships.
