Health experts in the North West region have intensified sensitization of the population on the need to respect best hygiene practices as the death toll of a new wave of cholera in the South West region continues to rise.
They have expressed fears of having a similar situation in the North West region given its proximity to the South West region.
Dr. Cornelius Chebo, a public health expert says personal hygiene is imperative to keep the cholera epidemic at bay. “We should only eat food that is warm because if fly that has collected the germ somewhere and lands on our food, we are going to be contaminated”, he said.
Dr. Cornelius has also advised the population to ensure that they drink pipe-borne water and wash their hands before and after meals and also ensure that all fruits and vegetables are properly washed.
During epidemics, some medications are given when the epidemic is confirmed. He decried the issue of open medications which can cause serious other problems.
