The mayor of the Wum council, Dighambong Anthony has promised his population he will take up their challenges of electricity supply.

This was during an event he organized in his municipality over the weekend, in the capacity of first vice president of the United Councils and Cities of Cameroon.

He says he has been given the authority by the Menchum people and it is time to sit up and meet the authorities in Yaoundé to lobby for the start of the Menchum hydroelectric power project and also for the Wum road to be put among the section of the ring road.

“It is time for development to come to Menchum. It is time to fight and fight for development to come to this division. Wum needs it own section of the ring road”, Mayor Dighambong Anthony noted.

The event was an opportunity for the people of wum to launch calls for Menchum dam to be constructed.

Menchum Division, has gone for more than four months without electricity.

The situation has forced the population to appeal to the government of Cameroon to construct the Menchum hydroelectric dam in order to tackle the problem of limited electricity supply in the area.

The appeals have been provoked by several months of blackouts in Wum which has hindered socio-economic activities.

According to some residents, they can’t listen to the radio, cold stores and bars run on the generator and all these leaves consumers with a high incident in their personal income.

The Menchum dam if constructed according to specialists, should be able to produce an installed capacity of 450megawatts which will represent a 40% increase of the overall electricity output of Cameroon.
