At least four confirmed dead in Kumba-Buea road accident

By Amina Hilda

At least four persons have been confirmed dead following a ghastly accident that occurred on the Kumba-Buea road in the South West Region of Cameroon.

The tragic incident resulted from a head-on collision between two trucks.

It occurred on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, on the hill from Bombe Bakundu descending to Long Street, Banga Bakundu in Mbonge.

Two drivers and two of their assistants commonly known as ‘motorboys’ died on the spot.

“One of the trucks was transporting household edible and non-edible goods,” reported a local media, adding that, “many people invaded the area a few minutes after the accident to steal the goods before the arrival of the forces of law and order while the corpses of the victims were still at the scene.”

The incident crippled circulation along the said stretch, leaving hundreds of travelers stranded. Many have attributed the fatal incident to “over speeding, reckless driving and non-respect of the highway code.”
