The North West Regional Assembly has agreed to financially support the centers hosting students with Special Needs starting with that of Government Bilingual High School Bamendakwe during the 2021/2022 academic year.
This was made known by North West Secondary Education delegate, Ngwang Roland Yuven after a meeting with the Regional Assembly officials in Bamenda.
The North West Regional Assembly shall provide both material and financial assistance to the students with Special Needs.
During the meeting, Ngwang Roland Yuven mentioned that education in the region has been the hardest hit by the current socio-political unrest.
He lamented that, out of about 600 colleges in the North West region, about 500 have been partially or completely destroyed.
“We want these partners here to take a firm commitment that schools, children are protected, teachers are protected.”
The regional delegate called on the Regional Assembly officials to contribute to protecting schools and the teaching staff, and students.
During the last academic year, teachers suffered from kidnaps where about 90 of them were kidnapped and tortured and some even murdered.
Meantime, preparations are ongoing all through the region ahead of the start of the 2021/2022 academic year on September 6, 2021.
