The Bishop of Bafoussam Diocese in the West Region of Cameroon has retired. The information was disclosed in the course of morning mass at St Joseph’s Parish Friday, March 19, 2021.
The decision of 75-year-old Bishop Dieudonne Watio is his age and possibly not enough strength to carry out demanding activities of the church.
His decision comes a day after he celebrated his 75th birthday on March 18, 2021, a move Catholic Christians say is accepted by the head of the Catholic Church in accordance with the code of Canon law number 402 paragraph 2.
His Lordship Dieudonne Watio has served the Catholic Church for twenty-six years in Nkongsamba and Bafoussam dioceses.
Catholic christians in Bafoussam say they will miss an assiduous servant of God dedicated in winning souls for Christ.
This is the second retiring of a Catholic Bishop in Cameroon in less than ten years. In 2013, Archbishop Simon Victor Tonye Bakot left the scene as Archbishop for the metropolitan diocese of Yaounde choosing to enjoy his retirement.
