Bahrain Tragedy: travel agents address scam allegations

The Bahrain incident of a new labourer who murdered other Cameroonians barely two days after arrival still fresh in the minds of Cameroonians. Whistleblowers have pointed out an alleged scam meant at drawing Anglophone Youths to Bahrain for fictitious jobs with the company ‘Professional Touch of Service’.

After the incident, theories emerged stating that the murderer was furious with the persons he killed and the agent for luring him into a scam.

Two names were pronounced – David & Valery, said to be the agents who lure Anglophone Youths into the Middle Eastern country for jobs that fail to match the description given or that didn’t exist at all.

In the wake of the allegations, the accused, David and Valery have come out publicly against the rumours, declaring them unreal.

The pair says the allegations have caused their lives and those of their loved ones to be threatened. “I am innocent of these allegations and I do not know who is behind it as well. My family has been threatened, and my image has been tarnished” David is quoted to have said.

Concerning the incident with the Cameroonian counterpart, the pair have indeed agreed that the aggressor had come to work in the same company where others had been.

According to the testimony by one of the direct witnesses to the incident, the aggression exerted on others by the newcomer had nothing to do with a scam job like many might have suggested.

The testimony says the incident was as a result of a malicious grudge which the newcomer bore against one of the boys at the residence building for objecting to him sleeping on a bed.

Following the sad incident, David and Valery say an investigation has already been launched by the police in Bahrain, and an agent through which the perpetrator came to the country has been arrested by the police too for questioning.

The controversy erupted when a Cameroonian knifed his fellow compatriots in Bahrain to death. Read details here.
