There is still no Mayor in Bangante Council, West region of Cameroon. In the course of another Council session today, Councillors of the CPDM party continued to disagree over who should be the new mayor. While some Councillors want the choice of CPDM party hierarchy to be respected, others call for a democratic election .

Stand Up for Cameroon human rights working group has said the number of human rights violations in Cameroon is on the rise. The body made public its human rights report for the month of April. Stand Up for Cameroon human rights group has expressed indignation over the arbitrary arrest and detention of seven of its members in Douala.

The new Mayor of Njombe Penja will be elected on the 21st of May. Councillors of the Council have been holding meetings, brainstorming on how to get a competent Councillor to the post. The new mayor will replace late Mayor Paul Eric Kingue who died early this year.

The Governor of the South West says there are few cases of resistance by separatists in the region but says calm is generally returning. Bernard Okalia Bilai has applauded the public burning of guns in Buea as a means to call for an end to the war. As the Prime Minister supervised the destruction of arms seized from separatists, locals in Buea and other parts of the South West are waiting to see concrete steps to end the war

Members of Parliament have paid homage to late Hon. Emilia Lifaka Monjowa, describing her as an exemplary leader that contributed much for the improvement of laws. A ceremony to pay her homage took place today at the national assembly. She will be laid to rest this weekend.

Five football referees from Cameroon Elite Two have been suspended for 3 month each by the commission in charge of referees in Cameroon. They were handed these sanctiona due to their poor officiating of some games in the Elite Two Divison.

Images coming from Bui Division show that military forces have continued burning houses in Kumbo. The military raid has sent hundreds of villagers into hiding for fear of their lives.

Elements of the Garoua 1 Company Brigade have apprehended six individuals involved in kidnapping jobs in the town. The operation to arrest them was done in five days, and many weapons and talismans seized from them.
