Bahraini company ‘retaliates’ against protesting Cameroonian workers

The last few weeks have not been easy for some Cameroonian and by extension, African workers in Bahrain.

The workers, staff of a company called Professional Touch of Services two days ago staged a protest complaining about their working and living conditions. Some said there was over population in the accommodation centres offered them by their employer.

Other berated what they termed the constant threatening of staff with the police.

After hours of protesting to no avail, the workers retired to their duties. Some say officials of the institution are now taking out their anger on them in a subtle way.

The company is said to be that where a worker killed his fellow colleagues over a lodging dispute some months ago.

“We workers have not been paid for months with some been owed January 2021 salary” explains one of them, adding they “went in for a sit in strike with today being the second day”.

“The administration is not seeing into the matter but instead they are threatening workers with police. This evening (last night), the light of the second and third floor housing Cameroonian workers has been cut off to inflict more pains on the workers” he revealed.

Due to the heat resulting from the lights taken out, the worker reveals he and many others had to pass the night in the ground out of the building to survive the merciless temperature.

Officials of the said institution are yet to comment on the situation.
