The Archbishop of Bamenda, His Grace Andrew Nkea, has exhorted inmates of the Bamenda Central Prison to use their time in the incarceration facility to reinvent themselves and present a new version of themselves when they eventually regain their freedom. He was speaking this Thursday, December 26, 2024, during a courtesy visit to the detention facility.

The visit that saw the archbishop celebrate mass with the inmates and also handed them some food and medical supplies gave the chief shepherd enough time to appeal to the consciences of the inmates, in a bit to inspire the sleeping giants in them.

“No matter where you find yourself, you can make a positive change in society if you prepare yourself for it. The archbishop urged his brothers and sisters to use this time as a pivotal moment to make meaningful changes in their lives, so that when they eventually regain their freedom, they can be positive influencers in society.

A Call to Better Service

He equally called on the prison administration to avail themselves of the opportunities to be positive changemakers and mentors to the inmates. Furthermore, he encouraged them to work with the prisoners as correction instructors and not brutes. He equally applauded the prison authority for the greater service rendered to the nation.

“Your great works shall not go unnoticed. Keep investing your best in bringing the best versions of the inmates. You shall be rewarded here on earth and in heaven,” the archbishop applauded

Meanwhile, the Superintendent in charge of the Bamenda Central Prison, Asaah-Ngu Mbah Walter, appreciated the Archbishop for the kind words and promised to continue working with his team to be a positive influence on society.

Traditional dances, sketches, and a showcase of various handicrafts from the inmates of the Bamenda Central Prison punctuated the crowd-pulling event.
