Bamenda-based journalists join fight against non-communicable diseases

Some journalists from 20 media organs in Bamenda have taken the engagement to intensify reporting on Non-Communicable diseases.

The engagement was made at a one-day seminar organized by the Cameroon Civil Society Non-Communicable Disease Alliance to strengthen the skills of journalists in reporting on the risk factor, prevention, and management of the disease.

Health experts had disclosed that Non Communicable diseases constitute a major cause of death in the region, and those with these diseases like diabetes, hypertension are likely exposed to contracting Covid-19Covid-19.

The Secretary-general of the civil society organization insists that to change the trends, media professionals have a pivotal role to play.

“The media is a key sector that should drive the conversation around issues on NCDs”, he said.

Media experts in Bamenda say there are ready to join in the fight against Non Communicable diseases. They believe the seminar is a wake-up call for the media professionals to be more committed to reporting on NCDs.

Actors involved in the prevention and management of NCDs in the Northwest region believe that joint efforts will help prevent premature death related to NCDs.
