Bamenda Central Prison: Juvenile Reform School Begs For Teachers, Material

Officials of the Juvenile Reform School of the Bamenda central prison say the institution has registered some 25 learners this current school year. The officials of the institution made the revelation on September 15 in Bamenda.

According to the director of the school, Vitalis Bufu, the institution is in urgent need of teachers and learning materials to function. While boasting that the institution has recorded brilliant performances, he added that the school can do better if given more resources.

“For my seven years at the head of this institution, we have been scoring a 100% at the first school leaving certificate exams. We have inmates that after release either open their workshops or continue apprenticeship in other workshops or just continue with their education. We have former learners who later became principals and currently, we have a former learner who is studying aeronautics in Egypt,” he said.

Public opinion has questioned why the Cameroon government, thanks to the support of the world bank, keeps recruiting thousands of primary and secondary school teachers each year yet, an important school like that in prison will be in need of teachers.
