The Bamenda City Council, in Mezam division of the North West region of Cameroon has reached a deal with some civil society actors and community leaders to ensureensure proper waste management.
The deal was reached during a recent meeting at the Bamenda City Council.
The meeting was convened by Bamenda City Mayor, Paul Tambeng Achombong.
During the meeting, the city mayor said, the move is to address the problem of overflowing trash cans and dump sites that are posing a threat to the health and wellbeing of the local population.
The municipal authority reiterated that the cleanliness of the town is the responsibility of the people of the city to fight against health insecurity.
Community leaders and civil society actors on their part called for sorting, recycling, and awareness campaigns as some the actions needed to to end the indiscriminate disposal of waste.
The close to a hundred persons who attended the meeting agreed to organise a general clean up exercise in Bamenda on February 7, 2022.
