Some market vendors in Bamenda III Sub-Division in Mezam, North West Region have criticized authorities of Bamenda City Council, for not doing very little when it comes to the management of wastes in the city.

Market men and women in Nkwen Market on Friday, June 10th 2023, resolved to petition the Mayor of Bamenda City Council, Paul Achobang for abandoning huge piles of refuse in Nkwen park, posing a health hazard to the population.

The vendors challenged the City Council “to take it’s responsibility and safe lives from illnesses especially at the time when campaigns against cholera are ongoing in the region.”

Just like the Nkwen Market, the park it should be noted also serves as sales point for foodstuffs like tomatoes, onion, pepper, green spice, vegetables amongst others

“Just look at the water moving down from the waste to our foodstuffs. Bacteria can be obtained from it. This has been the situation and the council does not care to clear this waste upon all the taxes we are paying,” a vendor lamented

MMI also gathered that, Nkwen Market vendors recently complained about lack of toilet facilities in the market.

The City Council has not yet reacted to these complaints.
