Bamenda City Mayor victim of own decision

The Mayor of the Bamenda City Council, Paul Achombong has blamed slow economic activities partly on the absence of bikes in major streets of Bamenda.

In a chat aired on CRTV North West 7:30am Biligual News, Wednesday, May 12, the city boss lamented there are no funds for the council to execute projects due to endless ghost towns with a significant drop in revenue collection with non-circulation of commercial motorbikes in city centers.

Commercial motor bikes were restricted to the peripheries on September 4, 2020 following a municipal order issued by Mayor Achobang.

Kidnappings and insecurity, the Mayor decried, have also inhibited progress of road construction works in his city.

He however remains optimistic that works on the roads are slowly but steadily progressing. “Work has been a little slow…however, work has not stopped, work is going on while we actualize some of those basic things,” he said.

Edge Construction Company was awarded the tarring of inner city roads in Bamenda, stretching: Welcome to Bamenda through the New Road, Amour Mezam, Finance Junction to Miss Ngeng Junction, Veterinary Junction, City Chemist, Food Market, Metta Quarter and Ayaba Street

The contract whose duration and funds have not been disclosed yet has suffered some set backs after launch in February this year with kidnapping of her staff and strikes by workers.
