Female Lawyers in Bamenda and others regions of Cameroon have taken upon themselves to intensify the initiation of cases that will protect the environment from abuses.

This was during a two-day workshop on Environmental Law and Litigation in Bamenda that brought together over fifty lawyers from five regions of Cameroon.

The workshop that was organized by the Foundation for Environment and Development (FEDEV) was aimed at enhancing the capacities of lawyers on Environmental Justice and Sustainable Development.

In order to foster the fight to protect the environment from environmental wrongs, Bar. Fossap Euphemia underscored the need for female lawyers and women from different walks of life to join the fight for Environmental Protection.

“Female lawyers will engage just like any other group of women to protect the environment.Women by their nature empower,we have kids and we look after them,so more women should get engaged in this action so that, our children can have an environment that is worth living in when we are no longer there,” she explained.

As indicated by Barrister Olive Tamon, it is far reaching for lawyers not to shy away from initiating cases that have to do with environmental misdeeds. She further explained that such cases should be brought before the law courts.

She also stressed on the need to partner with those in the rural areas as far as environmental protection is concerned.

On his part, the Executive Director of FEDEV, Bar. Nchunu Justice Sama said the world is going through a lot of encouragemental challenges like Climate change,Pollution, Species and Natural resource extinction, Mismanagement of natural resources, waste management among others.
He added that lawyers need to get to work in order to reverse the situation. He also said Cameroon should activate all the laws on the environment it has ratify in order to protect the environment from being destroyed.
