Hundreds of people, mostly bike riders in Bamenda have been protesting, since morning, the killing of their colleague by a police truck.

The protest started after a police truck is said to have knocked down and killed a bike rider and woman around Fish Pond Hill, Bamenda, this morning.

The police vehicle reportedly sped off afterwards.

The incident prompted public outcry and hundreds of bike riders in Bamenda stormed the street with the corpse of the deceased bike rider on a stretcher.

By mid day, the protest had gained more steam and the bikers had headed for the Northwest Governor’s Office to pour their grievances.

Unconfirmed reports say officers who fired warning shots to scare the protested from coming close to the Governor’s Office injured at least two persons with bullets.

The accident was blamed on over speeding, and people who were protesting said it was not the first time a vehicle of uniformed officers was knocking down and killing civilians.

Military and police vehicles parading streets in towns of the Northwest and Southwest Regions repeatedly been called out for killing civilians due to reckless driving.
