Bamenda II D.O. bans gatherings of North West Lawyers Association

The North West Lawyers Association has been prohibited from holding any public meetings within the Bamenda II Subdivision.

The ban is contained in a Sub-Prefectural decision signed by Nicholas Nkongho Manchang, D.O for the Bamenda II subdivision.

In the document dated September 9, 2021, Nicholas Nkongho says the group is operating illegally and that the meeting they plan to organise has not been declared.

He went further to warn members against violating his decision.

According to a legal mind in Bamenda, the decision is linked to a fight among North West lawyers, over the post of President of the North West Lawyers Association for the North West ahead of its general election.

The legal mind also disclosed that the mandate of the current exco is running out and elections expected in the days ahead.

However many have been fast to link the squabbles within NOWELA and the administration’s intervention to that of the Fako Lawyers Association FAKLA, before their last election.

It remains to be seen if NOWELA will respect the decision or carry it’s meeting to the Bamenda I and III subdivisions.
