Bamenda: Mankon villagers to celebrate legacy of late Fon Angwafo III in ‘Nukwi ne Abubte’ festival starting today

The people of Mankon, a first class Fondom in Cameroon’s North West Region will from Thursday December 15, 2022 to January 15, 2023 celebrate the life and legacy of their late monarch, HRH Angwafo III.

The late traditional joined his ancestors in May, 2022, aged 97.

The traditional event known as “Nukwi ne Abubte” marks the end of traditional rituals after the passing of the deceased fon and will see the public presentation of the crowned reigning monarch, HRH Fru Asaah Angwafor IV.

In a press conference Tuesday, December 14 2022, the Chairman of the organising Committee, Mumbari Joseph announced that “everything is set for the month long event.”

In conjunction with the customs of the land, the chairman of the Mankon Traditional Council on his part said there shall be no tilling of the soil within the 76 quarters that make up Mankon chiefdom.

All dance groups in the different quarters are expected to take their turns within the 30 days to showcase their ability at the explanade of the Mankon Fon’s palace.

The celebration shall begin at 6:00am with an opening dance from the Princes of the palace, followed by a dance to be animated by the new Fon, 49-year-old HRH Fru Asaah Angwafor IV.
