Over 40 couples, most of them Internally Displaced Persons have legalized their unions at the Bamenda III municipality in a cost-free collective marriage ceremony organized by the council authorities.
The couples who are mostly Internally Displaced Persons and Physically Challenged were selected from the entire region.
According to Joseph Tita, the first deputy mayor of the council, the collective wedding is intended to curb the high rate of cohabitation among couples in the North West region.
Organized by the Bamenda III council in partnership with INADES Foundation, the ceremony was inclusive for the first time due to the presence of Persons With Disabilities.
During the ceremony, the Divisional Delegate of Women’s Empowerment and the Family urged the couples to uphold the core values of keeping a sustainable marriage.
