Bamenda Roads: Poisoned Gift from Yaoundé?

If the reconstruction of the Bamenda-Babadjou road linking Bamenda to the rest of the country was a plate of Achu or a dish of Fufu corn and Huckleberry served by the Yaoundé regime, the entire Northwest region would have died of food poisoning or must have visited the hospital multiple times for constipation.

Years after the launch of the reconstruction of the road, works have not only been slow but have now become a giant project that might be completed only in a hundred years or in the 10th republic.

To make matters worse, the edge construction company like thunder storm recently destroyed homes and business places in Bamenda all in the name of effective work.

At a wink, the company again parked their machines and vamoosed leaving city dwellers in total agony.

When it rains, Bamenda is reduced to a footpath like of a road leading to an abandoned mining site or the road leading to a timber exploitation site.

The minister of public works Emmanuel Nganu Djoumessi officially launched the total reconstruction of the Babadjou-Bamenda stretch of road in Santa, May 16, 2017, during an official ceremony.

As confident as he was, he announced the region shall enjoy good roads in roads in 2 years
Immediately after the launch, many Bamenda denizens were in happiness as they hoped years of total neglect, civil disobedience campaigns for the boycott of tollgate payment, a litany of accidents, wanton destruction of cars and involuntary extension of traveling hours to and from Bamenda, shall be wiped away in the coming two years when road the Bamenda-Babajou stretch shall be completely reconstructed.

According to the public works minister, the Babadjou-Bamenda stretch of road shall be 35 km, the run around tract of the Bamenda entrance cliff, 5km and the urban section within the city of Bamenda, 12km shall constitute a linear extent of 52km and shall be completed in 24 months with joint funding from the world Bank to the tune of 60billion700million.

The project shall also see the construction of a weighing station, construction of two rest areas, construction of tollgate, markets and mini portable water systems.
