Bamenda: “Soldiers” disguise as Amba fighters, attack Mitayen credit union

In broad daylight, the Mitayen Cooperative Credit Union situated in the heart of the city of Bamenda, North West region was robbed on Friday 21st August 2020.

A CCTV camera footage has emerged, shedding more light on the identities of the alleged perpetrators. Believed to be soldiers, they are heard in the video speaking French and ‘broken’ pidgin English and French.

“The gunmen came with a private vehicle, surrendered everyone and ordered the cashier to empty the bank” a source said.

The CCTV footage captured reveals one of the robbers say “Ouvre la Porte, ouvre ça” translated as “Open the door, open it”.

“Movam all money, all , I say all, no keep someone…move the other one…all…bringam here,” they shouted.

“Ou est le Directeur”?

“Where is the Director”?, another one asked.

Friday’s incident is not the first of its kind.

Months back in Limbe, South West region, some members of the Cameroon armed forces robbed a shop and were only identified later with the aid of CCTV camera footage.

Government has always defended its troops deployed in the restive Anglophone regions of Cameroon, describing them as professionals.

The management of the credit union has not reacted to the robbery.
