Insecurity: Soldiers dismantle gang of robbers in Small Babanki, kill suspects

Security forces have reportedly dismantled a gang of alleged robbers that have been terrorising the population of Small Babanki in the North West Region of Cameroon.

This occurred during a recent military operation that soldiers launched in response to several complaints from locals.

According to sources, the armed men, who specialise in cattle theft, have emptied the cattle barns of many in the North West Region of Cameroon.

The soldiers’ special operations and investigations led to the deaths of at least three members.

However, a few other members of the group are said to have managed to escape when the soldiers stormed their hideout.

In a video circulating on social media, an unidentified individual, believed to be one of the gang members, was seen confessing to some uniformed officers that parts of the money they collected from their victims were always sent to his father, who was based in Ndu.

When asked if the money would be returned if his father was contacted, the gang member claimed that Amba fighters killed his father, whom he identified as Abdulai.

A few moments after he confessed, the culprit is said to have been shot dead.

Just recently, the armed group reportedly attacked a convoy of vehicles en route to a popular market in that area known as the Yoruba Market, collecting millions of FCFA from traders, including other valuables.

The attack reportedly occurred at a place called Black Bush, found between Bambili and Ndza villages in the North West Region of Cameroon, on August 18, 2023.

Findings have also revealed that this particular gang, made up of alleged Fulani, has been robbing the communities around Ndza, especially as the Bamenda-Fundong road is blocked on weekdays.

When separatists blocked the Bamenda-Ndop stretch of road, many people also suffered at the hands of the group.

According to reports from Small Babanki, many people can now go to sleep without worrying about the robbers attacking them.
