Cameroon’s elite military force, the Rapid Intervention Battalion (BIR) has freed 300 hostages kidnapped from Nigeria after a fierce fight with Boko Haram militants in the Far North Region.

The hostages were freed at Dabangua during a BIR rescue operation named “Toul-Ta4”.

The feat was recorded by the BIR base of “Operation Alpha,” a military operation launched by the Governor of the Far North, Midjiyawa Bakary, while on a socio-economic tour in Logone and Chari Division.

The BIR is part of a multinational joint taskforce made up of soldiers from Cameroon, Chad, Niger, Nigeria and Benin.

Cameroonian forces have recorded several confrontations with the Boko Haram last month, with casualties recorded on both sides.

The group killed at least two Cameroonian soldiers during a confrontation in April after soldiers killed three insurgents on April 22.

L’Oeil du Sahel newspaper reoorted on May 6, that 299 Boko Haram militants had been killed in the last six months.
