Unannounced power cut has affected many Cameroonian cities and villages in the past days.

In some areas like the South West Region, residents told MMI that they have been in dark for at least four days now.

The blackout began immediately after the torrential rain on Wednesday, April 19, which resulted in enormous material damage.

So far, Buea, Limbe, Tombel, Muyuka… are hardest hit.

“We need to move around, and find homes or people with generators to get our phones charged,” said Lanry, a Buea resident.

“But how long would we continue to do this, we cannot even tell when electricity would be fully restored,” Lanry added.

The power outages have crippled business and other activities.

“Business persons who depend only on electricity to run their businesses have no other alternatives. Some dealing with perishables are now counting their losses,” explained another source.

What went wrong?
In Limbe, a resident in Mile One took time to tell us what the problem is.

“An electric pole fell half way to the ground due to strong winds because it’s rotten from the bottom. For three days now, no ENEO staff has been here to do something. But they do pass around to cut the lights for those who have not paid. It’s really very dangerous because if it falls it might kill someone passing by as it’s just across the street road,” Sylvia who resides at American Pottery Quarter in Limbe told us.

No official statement has been issued by the Energy Company, ENEO.

It is not known when things will return to normal.
