A fierce blaze has swept through four homes on Street Seven in Great Soppo, Buea, early this morning, Monday, November 4, 2024, leaving significant destruction in its wake. The fire, which erupted in the early hours, has displaced four families comprising over 20 individuals, who now face considerable material losses as they attempt to recover from this devastating incident.

Victor, the homeowner where the fire reportedly originated, recounted the alarming moment when he first noticed flames emanating from his ceiling. According to him, a strange noise from above stirred him awake. Reacting swiftly, he woke his wife and children, and they hurried outside to safety. He then raised the alarm, notifying nearby residents, many of whom also attempted to salvage their belongings in the face of the rapidly spreading inferno.

“As we lay in bed, I heard a noise from the ceiling,” Victor recounted, still visibly shaken. “I quickly woke up my wife and kids, and we ran out. I alerted our neighbours, who also woke up and tried to remove some of their things. Unfortunately, I only managed to grab my phone and Bible. My other neighbours were able to save a few things, but many lost money and valuable possessions. We lost virtually everything, including money, furniture, equipment, and even school items for my children.”

Victor expressed gratitude that no lives were lost, despite the significant material damage suffered. “I thank God nobody died, but the material damage is enormous,” he added sombrely.

The flames raged for several hours before emergency responders managed to bring the fire under control in the early hours of the morning.
