Bloody January: Christians point accusing fingers at Cameroon government, separatists

In the first ten days of January 2021, thirteen civilians and eight military men have been documented killed in the two anglophone regions of Cameroon by the military and separatist fighters.

A bloody beginning of the year 2021, the Moderator of Presbyterian Church in Cameroon (PCC) says contradicts prayers and supplications to God for eternal peace to reign in Cameroon from 2021.

In a release Monday, January 11, 2021, Rt. Rev. Fonki Samuel Forba says, ” Once more, we call on the government to take her responsibility to bring the conflict to an end and earn her rightful place as a custodian of national life and welfare”.

To the religious leader, “…history will not pardon the main actors of this epoch of blood and war”.

According to the release, the series of dreadful killings of both civilians and military in the first quarter of January have blurred the ray of hope for the year 2021.

The church regrets that the military and separatists have vehemently chosen the path of war despite the pain this has brought on the lives of Cameroonians since 2016.

A dreaded beginning, but Rt. Rev. Fonki Samuel Forba, equally writing in his capacity as President of the Council of Protestant Churches in Cameroon says, ” We the religious leaders will not be deterred in our prophetic role as the conscience of the nation. We condemn forcefully and unequivocally all those perpetrating violence.”

It remains unclear if decision makers in Cameroon will pay attention to a series of warning letters written by religious leaders since the beginning of the crisis.
