Extrajudicial killing in Bamenda. Body found
The lifeless body of a young man was discovered early this morning at the Mile 6 Mankon trash dump in Bamenda. The gruesome find has left residents of the area in shock, as details surrounding the incident suggest an extrajudicial killing.
An eyewitness, who requested to remain anonymous, reported that individuals dressed in military-type attire brought the young man to the location around 6 PM on December 24. As darkness fell, Bamenda echoed with the sounds of knockouts. Eyewitnesses further report that the attackers ordered the victim to run before they shot him.
The identity of the victim remains unknown, and no information has surfaced about the individuals responsible for the killing. Furthermore, local authorities have yet to comment on the incident, leaving questions about accountability and justice unanswered.
Complicating the situation is the difficulty in distinguishing between the Cameroon military and separatist groups, as both sides now often wear similar military attire. This blurring of lines has heightened the confusion and fear among civilians, making it challenging to identify perpetrators of violence and further undermining trust in any form of authority.
This killing adds to the growing list of violent deaths in Cameroon’s English-speaking regions, where an ongoing armed conflict has fueled insecurity and mistrust. Allegations of extrajudicial killings, enforced disappearances, and human rights violations have become alarmingly frequent, with little to no accountability for the perpetrators.
The shocking discovery, however, left residents in Mile 6 celebrating Christmas mainly indoors.
