Body of Man Found at Mile 6 Dumpsite Raises Rights Concerns in Bamenda

The body of a man identified as Amanda Bertrand was discovered on Tuesday October 14, 2025 at the dumpsite in Mile 6, Mankon, in Bamenda II subdivision.

Residents say they stumbled upon the corpse with a wound of the head and other body parts and alerted authorities.

“We believe he was brought there and shot” said on of those who discovered the body. “The wounds on his head, back and leg shows clearly he was brought there and shot”

Several residents of Mile 6 recalled hearing gunfire around 9 p.m. on Monday night, before the discovery on Tuesday.

According to some local sources, Bertrand, who hailed from Mile 27 in Bafut, had previously been arrested by security forces prior to his death. While no official source has confirmed these allegations, locals say similar incidents have occurred repeatedly, with young men found dead from bullet wounds under unclear circumstances. In most of these cases, no investigation results have ever been made public.

While Bertrand’s body has been handed to his family, frustrations are mounting as the circumstances surrounding his killing add to a long list of unresolved deaths in the region.
