Boyo: Solar energy now powers Fundong District Hospital

Residents of Fundong Subdivision, the chief town of Boyo Division in the North-West region have saluted the recent decision of the director of the hospital to power the hospital with solar energy.

The decision which seeks to salvage the hospital from the incessant power cuts is a saving measure for patients who seek medical services at the hospital. Amidst blackouts that lasted sometimes for months, work at the hospital became difficult. Some nurses on duty have had to use light from their phones to administer drugs to patients at night.

Major theatre operations have had to be grounded each time there is a power failure in the division.
According to Dr. Elvis Odine, vision-bearer of led initiative, the hospital can now boast of a steady supply of electricity, better storage of drugs better handling of emergency cases in the theatre at any moment.

Many households in Bamenda and elsewhere In the region are now switching over to solar energy as a means of getting regular power supply years after the North-West region started functioning from a thermal plant in Ntarinkon, powered by generators since the high tension transformer in the region got bad.

At times the thermal plant breaks down or runs out of fuel leaving the entire region in darkness. A division like Nkambe has not had electricity for close to a year!
