Andre Onana nominated for Ballon D'or
Cameroonian international goalkeeper, André Onana has been nominated for the 2023 Yachine Trophy, which is awarded to the best goalkeeper in the world.
The 27-year-old Manchester United keeper is one of eight international goalkeepers nominated for the Trophy—other nominees include Thibaut Courtois, Yassine Bounou, Mike Maignan, Marc André ter Stegen, Ederson, Emiliano Martinez, and Aaron Ramsdale.
Alongside the Yachine Trophy nomination, Onana has also been listed among 30 football stars, including Lionel Messi, who has been nominated for the general Ballon d’Or award, which honours the world’s best player.
Onana’s nomination doesn’t seem very surprising. Before his recent transfer to Manchester United, he had a stellar season for Inter Milan in the 2022-23 football season, keeping 19 clean sheets in 45 appearances in all competitions.
The nomination is a major boost to his career and to his hope of winning the Ballon d’Or itself, which is awarded to the best player in the world.
The winners of the Ballon d’Or and the Yachine Trophy will be announced on October 30, 2023, at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris, France.
Andre Onana is currently in Cameroon preparing for the Indomitable Lions’ upcoming AFCON qualification match against Burundi on September 12.
