Reports say women in Ekona, a small town in Muyuka Subdivision of the South West Region, are mobilising to storm Buea, the regional capital, on February 15 to protest against what they termed military excesses on the population.
MMI has learned Ekona dozens of women, carrying peace plants, have been gathering at Ekona this morning for the planned protest.
An Ekona resident said the protest follows continuous military raids in the locality, especially the recent arrest of several young men and an elderly person recently.
“On Sunday, 12 February 2023, a host of military men stormed Ekona and arrested innocent youths playing football on the field and carried them to an unknown destination,” the local source told MMI.
He added that military returned to the town on Tuesday, February 14, and arrested more people.
“Today, again, they came and arrested some youths in the quarter and killed one innocent young guy who was just from taking a bath,” he lamented to MMI on Tuesday.

“They arrest our brothers almost every week for no just reason and term them to be Amba fighters,” he regretted.
Ekona, located few kilometres from South West Regional capital Buea, has witnessed several assaults from both the military and separatist fighters since the start of the crisis in Cameroon’s English-speaking regions.
The roadside town is yet to recover from the devastating blow of the crisis, which has displaced many of its residents.
Those who are living there now are barely struggling to survive the hard times that have befallen them, MMI learned.
Unfortunately, they are being targeted by both the military and separatist fighters.
“We are not different from every other citizen; we suffer more than others out there. Infact we are in the worst situation because we are been hit from the two side,” our source regretted.
