In a rare tweet Friday night of October 4, 2019, the Head of State, Paul Biya said he will drop charges against some CRM militants.

President Biya ordered the discontinuance of proceedings pending before Military Courts against officials and militants of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement.

“I have ordered the discontinuance of proceedings pending before Military Tribunals against some officials and militants of political parties in particular the Cameroon Renaissance Movement (CRM)” he noted on Twitter.

A statement signed by the Minister of State, Secretary General at the Presidency of the Republic, Ferdinand Ngoh Ngoh said, the move came in the wake of a national, to “restore peace and fraternity” in Cameroon.

Government drops charges against CRM leaders and party members

Would Maurice Kamto, CRM leader be freed? That question remains unanswered as the President’s tweet clear states “some officials and militants”.

Prof. Maurice Kamto and hundreds of his allies and supporters were arrested in January 2019 for protesting against electoral fraud and government’s poor management of the Anglophone crisis.

Government ordered for the release of 333 detainees of the Anglophone crisis Thursday, but failed to include incarcerated Ambazonian leaders on the list.
