A fire incident has been reported this Thursday evening, at the Mboppi Market, in Douala, the commercial headquarters of Cameroon.

A trader told MMI that the flames were only noticed when shop owners had closed their business premises and were returning home.

“We closed and while moving out of the market we noticed smoke coming out of a smoke and we moved there to notice there was a huge fire,” he told MMI.

Efforts to put out the flames are underway.

What provoked the inferno is unknown. We are still gathering information on the number of shops that were affected.

This is the umpteenth time that the market, which is one of the biggest in the Central African Nation, is going up in flames.

Experts have constantly attributed the constant fire outbreak to poor electrical connections.

The absence of fire hydrant systems in Cameroonian markets makes it difficult for firefighters to put out such flames.
