Breaking: Panic in Yaounde as device explodes

An improvised explosive device (IED) has gone off at Rond Point Damas in Cameroon’s capital, Yaounde.

A witness told Mimi Mefo Info that: “The device was in a bag. A roadside call box operator said said he saw a man dropping the bag in the morning and left . He immediately asked surrounding residents to inform the military to come and check the content of the bag.”

Our source added that security forces deployed to the scene “successfully neutralized the explosive before anyone was hurt.”

The locally manufactured explosive device is the third to go off in the town in the past three weeks.

This comes on the morning of the arrival of French President, Emmanuel Macron to Yaounde.

Macron is expected to discuss a wide range of issues including insecurity with president Paul Biya in the hours ahead.
