Buea Apostolic Administrator announces Catholic University resumption amidst raging dispute

The Catholic University Institute of Buea (CUIB) resumes classes on June 30th, 2020. Like every other institution, it will be battling the COVID-19 pandemic. The dispute over who controls the institution however is still on course.

In a notice to staff and students, the Apostolic Administrator of Buea, Bishop Michael Bibi acting in capacity of Chancellor and Pro Chancellor of the institution says onsite classes for students of the Douala and Buea campuses resume on June 29th and 30th respectively.

“The decision to effectively resume onsite classes for both campuses is based on the numerous requests from students who have been having active online classes” he states.

With regards to preventing the spread of COVID-19, Bishop Michael Bibi says “new guidelines have been put in place to keep the university safe from the health crisis.”

“We want to reassure our parents and guardians that the school remains forever committed keeping its mission and vision”.

There are however doubts as to how the institution will take off with onsite classes smoothly when the battle for control between the Board of Trustees and the former President, Father George Nkeze and the Apostolic Administrator still rages on.

Though the Apostolic Nuncio to Cameroon sided with Bishop Michael Bibi, the Board of Trustees of the University says he acted above his powers.
