Buea-based businessman dies in accident on Tiko-Douala road

A Buea-based businessman and computer technician, Njimoh Cornelius, lost his life when his car collided with a moving truck on the Tiko-Douala road on Sunday night.

The accident occurred as Cornelius, 40, was en route to Douala aboard a red vehicle.

The collision left the vehicle severely damaged, and a viral video captured moments after the accident depicted the lifeless body of the businessman within the wreckage.

Cornelius, a father of four, was described as a cheerful and friendly man who cherished every opportunity to celebrate life.

Friends and acquaintances expressed their sorrow, emphasising his straightforward and expressive nature.

“Very friendly, man. He was a friend to many. Very straightforward and expressive person. He didn’t keep malaise,” lamented Didier, a close friend of the deceased.

The late Njimoh Cornelius has been transferred to the mortuary, awaiting final arrangements for his burial.

He died, leaving behind a grieving wife, four children, and other relatives mourning the loss.

The Tiko Gendarmerie, which intervened in the accident, revealed they arrested the driver of the truck and his assistant, also known as the “motor boy,” and detained them in Buea.

This tragic incident adds to the growing list of fatal accidents along the Tiko-Douala stretch of National Road No. 3.

Citizens have requested government intervention to ensure traveler safety due to concerns about the poor condition of the road, which is characterized by potholes and other difficulties.

Several weeks ago, a separate accident at Likomba Hill, along the same road, resulted in the deaths of five commercial motorcycle riders.
