Hostess Dies in Bus Crash on Yaounde-Buea Road, Several Injured

An accident on the Yaounde-Buea road earlier this Friday, August 22, claimed the life of a Buea resident identified as Vina, who was a hostess on board the bus belonging to Parklane Travels.

The accident left several passengers injured.

Vina, who sat in the front seat near the driver, is reported to have been a recent University of Buea graduate with a degree in accounting.

She was known for her lively personality and was the face of many of Parklane Travels’ publicity videos and posters which MMI has seen.

“We extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends, and colleagues,” Parklane Travels said in a press statement.

According to Buea-based radio host Joseph Weno, survivors reported that the driver appeared to be dozing off during the journey, and passengers repeatedly tried to alert him.

There are also unconfirmed allegations of drunk driving, though Parklane Travels has not addressed these claims in its statement.

The company says it is cooperating fully with authorities as investigations into the cause of the accident continue.

“The safety of our staff and passengers is at the heart of what we do,” the agency stated, apologizing for the distress caused and committing to ongoing support for those affected.
