Dozens of Ex-separatist fighters have blocked the Long Street – Bokwoango road, agitating over government’s failure to reintegrate them back into society.
“Government is behaving as though we have no future. I’ve been here for more than a year now… Some of us here have wives, children. We are eating here, but what does our families eat?” chorused one of the ex-combatants as they shouted in disorder.
Addressing the irate ex-combatants, the Secretary-General at the Southwest Governor’s Office has said the National DDR coordinator, Francis Fai Yengo, will be visiting them in the days ahead.
The ex-fighters say they have not yet received national identification cards more than two months after they were produced. The Identification process began on January 2 this year, and, according to the ex-fighters, authorities had said they would be available three weeks after production.
Some ex-fighters say they have been at the centre for over two years and “are tired of being patient over promises”.
