Buea High court throws out Habeas corpus for Wazizi

Lawyers of late journalist, Samuel Wazizi were in court today demanding the corpse of their client. Reports from Buea say the Fako High Court threw out the habeas corpus, declaring it as inadmissible.

The case, the court added is no longer within its jurisdiction. The pidgin English newscaster’s defense team has described the decision as an abuse of the Cameroon Criminal Procedure, and Cameroon’s judicial process.

Barristers Nkea Emmanuel and Edward Ewule have since promised to seize the court again in the days ahead. After local and international pressure, government admitted that the journalist died under its watch.

It has since failed to produce his corpse, leaving colleagues, lawyers and sympathisers of Wazizi wanting.Days after government announced Wazizi was dead, another Anglophone journalist declared missing for 24 days was found at SED.

His lawyers say he looked pale and was traumatised. The campaign continues for the release of many journalists jailed in Cameroon.
