Buea: Hundreds of drivers demonstrate against military brutality

Taxi drivers in Buea, in the restive South West Region of Cameroon have blocked the main road as they protest military crack down this Sunday.

The roads were barred at “Royal Pharmacy-Street 1” few metres away from the Independence Square.

The drivers have urged security forces to ensure that the vehicle of one of the taxi drivers that was hit this morning be repaired.

To the drivers, a military vehicle intentionally hit the car and then, attempted to escape.

“Military vehicles have taken a habit of intensionally hitting taxis when ever they are driving within the town. This is draining us financially and a has to stop,” Vincent, a cab driver told Mimi Mefo Info this morning.

The spontaneous protest of taxi drivers has disrupted traffic in the town of Buea.

Taxi drivers in the town have also accused military of using their guns and vehicles to intimidate and extort money from taxi drivers that work at night.
