Buea inhabitants in state of uncertainty as soldiers carry out forceful registration of ID cards

Denizens in Buea are said to be in a dilemma as military has been carrying out suspicious and forceful registration of their National Identification documents.

Some young people in Buea have told Mimi Mefo Info, they are left in total confusion. Others have also termed the latest move as invasion of their privacy by the military.

“I was there with hundred of other youths, taken to the Molyko stadium in Buea, with or without national ID cards. We were taken right from our rooms and compounds. Our names and ID card numbers were taken and registered on some list after which they asked us to leave” a victim testified.

The activity has brought about wide speculations by the Buea denizens of the state authorities already planning for potential “fraudulent activities” as they were neither told why they were arrested nor why their information was being registered.

“The forces of law and order have shown to us here in Buea that our privacy here no longer matters. We no longer have freedom here in Buea as the military enters our rooms at any time they feel like to,” complained a disgruntled student living in the student dominated area of Molyko.

The student who chose to remain anonymous recounted how his residence was invaded by over 10 military officers. “They ransacked my room inside out without telling what they were looking for exactly,” he narrated.

Meanwhile, no major election is slated for this year in Cameroon. Government has not commented on the latest move.
