Bui Division: Tadu locals still counting losses days after military raid

Days after a military raid in Tadu, Bui Division of the North West region, locals are still counting their losses.

Soldiers had carried out the raid like many others, aimed at targetting Ambazonian separatist fighters believed to have been harboured by the community.

At the end of the raid however, it turned out the locals were the actual target.

“They took my uncles out of their home. They were together that night that the military took them some kilometres away from their home and killed them” a local says.

The same soldiers, the victim adds, set ablaze their home causing the death of an aunt.

“Justice is all we want. They left our mothers homeless” wept the lucky survivor of the raid.

“… All I know is that they were in search of the [Amba] boys” he replied when quizzed on the soldiers’ motive.

The Tadu raid is one of hundreds carried out by soldiers since the Anglophone crisis escalated into an armed conflict over four years ago.

Despite glaring evidence of several rights abuses including torture, razing down houses, abduction and extortion, government maintains that its soldiers have always been profession in carrying out their duties.

Separatist whose leaders are jailed in Yaoundé have failed to reach a compromise for a ceasefire or peace talks with government.
